M12: Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Objective: Build a consistent post-match analysis process covering break, opening shot, misses, position errors, tactical decisions, black-ball decisions, safety, pressure shots, opponent tendencies and frame outcomes.
Why it matters: Improvement compounds only if lessons from matches are actually captured — memory alone is unreliable, especially for pressure-shot and tactical detail.
Watch: [Video placeholder] A full post-match analysis session using match footage, category by category.
Learn: After every serious match, work through the ten analysis categories systematically, ideally using video. Focus particularly on tactical and black-ball decisions and pressure shots, which are the highest-leverage moments in most frames.
See it: [Image placeholder] A post-match analysis template with all ten categories and space for specific notes.
Practise: Complete a full ten-category analysis after your next serious match, using footage if available, and identify the single most costly moment of the match.
Test yourself: 1) Why should performance analysis happen after every serious match rather than only after losses? 2) Which category tends to be hardest to recall accurately without video, and why? 3) How does identifying the single most costly moment of a match help prioritise future practice?
Challenge: Complete performance analysis for three consecutive serious matches and identify a recurring pattern across all three.
Common mistakes: Analysing only losses and skipping wins, missing lessons from close or lucky frames; relying on memory instead of footage for pressure-shot detail; treating analysis as a one-off rather than an ongoing habit.
Coaching cue: "The match isn't finished until you've learned from it."
Completion criteria: Three completed post-match analyses with an identified recurring pattern.
