Technical Optimisation
Objective: Fine-tune the technical foundations — cue action, timing, tempo, grip, alignment, stroke efficiency, cue speed, spin efficiency and equipment interaction — without changing technique for its own sake.
Why it matters: At elite level, marginal technical inefficiencies compound over a match and a season. Small corrections matter, but change made without reason introduces risk.

Learn: Review your cue action component by component: grip pressure and hand position, cue alignment through the shot, stroke tempo and acceleration, and how your cue interacts with the table and balls at delivery. Any change should be justified by a specific, identified inefficiency — not novelty.

Practise: Record your cue action from front-on and side-on angles. Compare against your audit footage from Module 1 and identify one specific technical variable to refine, then drill that single change in isolation for two weeks.
Test yourself: 1) What is the difference between a technical adjustment and a technical novelty? 2) Which single component of your cue action showed the most variability under pressure in your audit footage? 3) How would you know if a technical change has actually improved outcomes rather than just felt different?
Challenge: Make one deliberate technical adjustment, track potting and position success rates before and after over 200 shots, and decide with evidence whether to keep it.
Common mistakes: Changing several technical variables at once, making it impossible to isolate what worked; chasing technique changes seen elsewhere without checking they suit your own game; abandoning a sound change too early before it beds in.
