Objective: Improve pot consistency across straight, short, medium and long-range shots and cut angles, using correct pocket speed and centre-pocket aim.
Why it matters: Consistent potting is the foundation every other skill in this course builds on. Without it, position play and tactics don't matter.
Watch: [Video placeholder] Demonstration of straight, short, medium, long and cut-angle pots played at correct pocket speed.
Learn: A short guide on playing to the centre of the pocket, matching pace to shot length, and avoiding unnecessary power on close-range pots.
See it: [Image placeholder] Diagram showing pocket entry lines and the centre-of-the-pocket target for different cut angles.
Practise: 20-shot potting test covering a mix of straight, short, medium, long and cut shots, played at controlled, appropriate pace.
Test yourself: 1) Where should you aim on a pot to maximise pocket tolerance? 2) Why does using too much power reduce potting consistency? 3) What is pocket speed and why does it change with distance?
Challenge: Repeat the 20-shot potting test, recording pots, misses, miss direction and shot distance, and try to beat your first attempt.
Common mistakes: Hitting every pot too hard 'to be safe' rather than matching speed to the shot.
Coaching cue: Before each pot, ask: what's the minimum speed this ball needs to reach the pocket?
Completion criteria: Score at least 15 out of 20 pots in the potting test, with consistent pace control.
