Table Conditions & Racking
Racking the Balls — MUST
Objective: Produce a correctly positioned, tight rack that meets ruleset requirements every time.
Why it matters: A loose rack changes the whole frame — breaks don't scatter properly, and in competition a bad rack can be challenged. This is a required, non-negotiable skill.
Watch: Full racking video: rack placement, apex ball, tightening technique, ruleset-specific colour/pattern rules.
Learn: Guide with the 10-point racking checklist (rack shape, apex on spot, balls touching, no gaps, correct pattern per ruleset, etc.).
See it: Diagram: correct rack layout for reds/yellows and stripes/solids conventions.
Practise: Rack 10 times in a row; after each, run your hand lightly around the rack to check for gaps before lifting it.
Test yourself: Checklist self-assessment: tick off all 10 racking points unaided.
Challenge: Have a training partner inspect your rack blind and rate it tight/loose.
Common mistakes: Lifting the rack frame before fully tightening the balls forward; leaving the apex ball off the spot.
Coaching cue: Tight rack, honest break.
Completion criteria: Three consecutive racks pass a partner or coach's tightness check.
