Objective: Extend potting reliability to long pots, thin and thick cuts, shots near the pocket jaws, difficult angles and pressure situations, and learn to make sound percentage decisions.
Why it matters: At intermediate level, matches are decided by the shots you choose not to attempt as much as the ones you pot.
Watch: [Video placeholder] Demonstration of long pots, thin cuts, thick cuts and pressure potting at varying speeds.
Learn: A short guide covering long-pot technique, thin and thick cut angles, playing shots near the pocket jaws, pressure potting, percentage decision-making, and adjusting potting at different speeds.
See it: [Image placeholder] Diagram showing thin-cut and thick-cut contact points and pocket-jaw danger zones.
Practise: Set up 10 long pots, 10 thin cuts and 10 thick cuts, recording your success rate for each category.
Test yourself: 1) What makes a thin cut harder to judge than a thick cut? 2) What is a percentage decision, and why does it matter more at this level? 3) How does pocket-jaw risk change your target on a cut shot?
Challenge: In a practice frame, only attempt a pot if you judge it to be an 80%+ chance, and track how often you were right about the difficulty.
Common mistakes: Attempting low-percentage pots under pressure instead of taking the safer, higher-value option.
Coaching cue: Before a difficult pot, ask: is this actually a good percentage shot, or does it just look exciting?
Completion criteria: Score at least 70% across the long-pot, thin-cut and thick-cut tests combined.
